Oplæg vedr. konkurrence om kunst i skolegården. Nordre Skole i Ikast/Brande Kommune:
MASONRY IN THE SCHOOL YARD
Presentation for a competition about art in the schoolyard. Nordre Skole in Ikast / Brande Municipality:
“In the schoolyard, we want to have a decoration, which is targeted at the schoolyard for 4th grade and up. Especially the oldest students (7.-9. grade) lack something to gather around when on their breaks.
The decoration must both provide a sensory experience and have a function. It can be as a venue for play and games, social interaction and/or learning. The expected lifespan of the work will also weigh heavily in the decision.”
I won the competition with a semi-circular shelter wall with seating and a small stage with mosaic decoration.
The spiral in the wall is chosen as a pattern and symbol for the energy center that a school is.
The spiral symbolizes change, growth, fertility, vitality and renewal.
Right turn = energy charge, left turn = energy discharge.
On the stage part is a pattern in carved brickwork. The scene sets out to search for patterns, pictures (masks) and offers a lot of math play. When you stand in the middle of the stage and speak up against the wall, the sound is amplified, so the stage is also a "speaker's corner".
The artwork was made in collaboration with mason Nicolai Asmussen, Holstebro
Approx. price for a similar wall and stage DKK 375,000.
